Four lengths of twine crossed the corkboard.
They marked requests, assigned work, checks, and completion. Years ago, a supervisor had said volunteers could never maintain a fifth stage. In that season, with two people and a hurried schedule, perhaps she was right.
The team now has a specific problem. Items awaiting outside confirmation disappear between checking and completion. A removable fifth card could make the wait visible.
Still, the organiser's hand stops after the fourth line. More structure feels like disobedience. Less structure feels faithful because an old voice taught it that shape.
The blank space is not asking for a monument. It is asking for a reversible test.
Three current cards already carry the same handwritten question: waiting for whose answer? The missing stage is visible before the new twine is pinned.
Liberty is not complexity
Paul writes:
Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.2 Corinthians 3:17
Liberty does not mean more columns. It means fear no longer decides before present facts are examined.
You are no longer governed by a sentence detached from its old conditions. The written Word announces liberty, and the Holy Spirit gives present wisdom. Four may still be right; five may now serve better.
Define the problem first. Count how many items disappear. Ask the volunteers whether the missing stage is real. Do not add a column merely because building feels like movement.
You have liberty to run one reversible test. Scripture keeps freedom under Christ, and the Holy Spirit keeps complexity from becoming proof of intelligence or calling.
Use removable cards. Set a review date. Write what success and failure would look like before enthusiasm edits the standard.
Choose one week, not forever. Count how many awaiting-confirmation items become findable and whether volunteers understand where to place them. Also record any extra confusion the fifth stage creates.
You are free to collect evidence that disagrees with your idea. The written Word keeps truth above momentum, and the Holy Spirit gives courage to dismantle what your hands just built.
Ask a volunteer who did not design the test to run one card through all five stages. Watch without supplying missing instructions. If the sequence depends on your running commentary, that dependence belongs in the result.
You have liberty to make the premise visible: “A separate waiting stage may prevent items from disappearing.” That is a testable claim, not a revelation. Scripture remains the authority, and the Holy Spirit does not need our synthesis disguised as text.
Keep every fixed requirement linked to its actual source. A neat column cannot create authority by looking official.
You possess freedom to dismantle what does not serve. The written Word welcomes correction, and the Holy Spirit does not ask you to defend a structure because your hands built it.
Pin the fifth line lightly enough to remove it.
You are free before the corkboard changes. The written Word establishes liberty, and the Holy Spirit gives judgment without requiring a demonstration. Standing comes first; testing follows through wisdom.
Name the column for the actual wait, not an abstract theory. Teach the team how to move one card through it. Let another volunteer run the sequence without you.
You are released from making adoption a verdict. Scripture keeps the work truthful, and the Holy Spirit guards you from driving out of insufficiency. A failed test cannot say you were not enough.
If the fifth column works only when you supervise it, simplify or remove it. A structure nobody else can run is a performance.
Invite the team to name the cost as well as the benefit. One more stage may improve tracking and slow simple work. Honest review carries both facts without recruiting everybody into your preferred conclusion.
You possess freedom to update publicly. The written Word makes correction honorable, and the Holy Spirit keeps a revised judgment from becoming shame. Drive can stop when truth says stop.
If the old four-column board proves sufficient after all, remove the twine and record why. Returning to four by present evidence is liberty, not captivity.
Do not train every team on the experiment before the current group has tested it. A local problem deserves a local trial first. Scale can hide weak premises by spreading them faster than anyone can examine them.
You are free from making reach the evidence of rightness. The written Word remains true without adoption, and the Holy Spirit keeps a useful test small until truth warrants another step.
Name who can change the fifth column during the week. Without that clarity, cards may stall because everyone assumes the new line belongs only to you. Shared use needs shared, bounded responsibility.
If volunteers disagree, record the specific friction. “Too complicated” is less useful than “I could not tell whether this card was waiting or checked.” Concrete evidence gives revision somewhere honest to begin.
You possess patience to review before expanding. Scripture keeps wisdom teachable, and the Holy Spirit releases momentum from serving as a substitute for being sent.
At the end of the test, remove every temporary card before deciding. Look at the board empty. Then choose the structure that serves the verified work, not the one that makes the builder feel most necessary.
The loose twine can return to the drawer without turning removal into a funeral for the idea.
Truth remains.
No sixth column is promised. No broader system follows. A current problem can receive one current response without becoming architecture for every future room.
Record the premise, the date, and the review. Leave the seam visible. Future workers should know where to question what you built.
When the review arrives, keep, revise, or remove the line according to honest evidence. Liberty remains in every outcome.

- Blank fifth column beside this old workflow, you are a current question, not rebellion and not proof of importance. The written Word says where the Spirit of the Lord is there is liberty, so in the name of Jesus I test today's work by today's truth.
- Fear that revision dishonours every former limit, leave this corkboard now. The Holy Spirit gives wisdom without contempt, and I am free to build lightly enough to correct.
- Lord Jesus, You are Cornerstone and Judge of every structure. Your written Word orders this test, Your Holy Spirit guards each worker, and I leave adoption, scale, and every future framework with You.
